And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on Hawkwind [reply]

What, no comments yet on the great Hawkwind gigs! I only caught them during the 80's gigs from the Sonic Attack tours onwards, but they were never less than brilliant, weird and wonderful light shows and backdrops too, added to the experience. Never knew from one day to the next who was going to be in the band with Dave Brock of course, but that was always part of the fun! Saw them a year or so back in a small club in my adopted home town of Brighton and they had Huw Lloyd-langton, Alan Davey and Simon House in the band and proceeded to do pretty much the set list from 1985... best gig in years! This was my very FIRST gig and that was a milestone for any kid, so I was very excited.  I'd been a serious Hawkwind freak from the age of 10 thanks to an older cousin brainwashing me out of my Slade phase into deeper stranger things.  I had very recently turned 13 yrs old, my hair was long, I thought I was dead cool in my Lone Groover T-shirt and raggy combat jacket. Feelgoods supported, but I wasn't quite ready to appreciate my good luck in seeing them, I was anxious to see Hawkwind and it was the first time I'd ever heard of something called a 'support act'.
My best memory of the show is that my ears rang afterwards and for the next two days.  The lineup included Lemmy, Dave Brock, Nik Turner and about five others; six including Stacia who I think I remember dancing up front in a black leotard, but I was way up in the balcony and couldn't get too clear a view of her.  Nik Turner wore a lizard mask throughout, that much I know for sure.  I bought a good poster afterwards for 50p (which seemed a lot) it had a Spacey Art Nouveau design with an elegant looking chick in robes and twin sunsets over twin bits of ocean or something like that, artwork by Barney Bubbles I'd think.
There was another poster on sale, with a design which later bacame the cover of the Roadhawks compilation... the one with the
skull-face truck driver in a big old streamlined rig bombing down the highway.
There were t-shirts available with 'Lemmy a quid till Friday' printed on them.
Set list? Can't remember a  ****** thing but general Hawkwind wall of noise, but I was totally impressed.  31 and a bit years ago?  ******, it feels as if I dreamt it all in another life.
