And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on Jethro Tull [reply]

October 1970, just as they were becoming HUGE in the USA -- supported by Tir-Na-Nog & Procul Harum (with Robin Trower!).

My first ever "heavy" gig and it blew me away (aged 14); it was then Green's Playhouse, of course. This date was post-Benefit and pre-Aqualung.

Saw them several times therafter, particularly the STUNNING Thick as a Brick tour! All this before I emigrated to the east coast (Hiss! Boo!)

Saw them in 84 and was amazed to be told to sit down by the bouncers. No one was allowed to stand up, even down the front of the stalls! First time I'd ever seen that at the Apollo! Still it didn't spoil a good gig. [reply]

1984 - me and my mates snuck into the apollo for this gig (there were various ways to sneak in - we climbed in through a window in the side lane). strange atmosphere as everyone was sitting down. i never ever experienced this at any other apollo gig. we were standing at the back of the stalls where a few others were watching the show. a bouncer came up to us and asked for our tickets. taking a risk i said we'd paid a bouncer to get us in. he asked us which one. remembering past occasions where we bribed the bouncers to get into shows i just described the bouncer that we paid off on a previous gig (the one with the tash who smoked a cigar - anyone remember this guy?). expecting to be kicked out the lie paid off and we were left to watch the show. tull were tops. 1970 Jethro Tull / Titr na nog / Procal Harlem what a line up, first gig ever in Greens..........I was 15 at the time and had just started work, the gig started around 10pm and went on till 2am if i remember correctly, first time Ian Anderson had performed My God on accoustic guitar, you could have heard a pin drop, now where do you see that nowadays, I must have a copy of the ticket somewhere !! My abiding memory of the '74 gig, and I am starting to get a little bit concerned that I might have just imagined this, was there being a single urinal attached to the side of the keyboard and at some point during the show John Evan came out from behind the piano and simulated having a pish into it!
