And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Now having just finished the book tonight, i thoroughly enjoyed the book start to end, the stories in some a hilarious, must admit, got a little sad when i finished it, shame the old girl is no more, i was at one of the demolishing days and never thought of getting a memento of the building which i still regret today. The book is a must have, you will piss your trousers, go goggle eyed at the pics and cry when you finish it !!! [reply]

Thanks for the feedback!  Wait 'till you see the demolition footage on the soon to arrive DVD - film of the old place being taken down is very sad.  Get the hankies oot Neil. [reply]

Like lots of of people of my generation. Sons or daughters bought it as a christmas present and by now it has been well and truly thumbed. With words I wiz at that gig, and that. If Harry Potter could wiggle is wand he should make the Apollo come back to life. [reply]

Fantastic book, brings back some great memories, everyone at the time who you saw there standing in the queues had individual memories and at the time you did not think it would leave such lasting thoughts and memories of a great time in music,and your life, just shows you eh..!!! The Apollo is dead, but long live the people and the Memories! I am living in Holland now but will be back in Glasgow Saturday 21st January...anyone up for a pint in the WALKABOUT?? (Now stand on the hallowed Apollo site!) Alan Baxter [reply]

Hey Andy, you and Scott thinking still of getting some sort of gathering of the Apollo faithful sometime in a bar or maybe a small gig where we could all meet? Seems a lot of people contribute maybe good idea to see if they could get togther 'face to face''....any thoughts..??

Yeah the bookis pretty good and of course with something like this there is always going to be mistakes but,to say that Les Harvey played Clouds on 29 june 1972 when the poor sod was electrocuted on may 3rd 1972 in Swansea is pretty poor especially coming from SAHB'S manager. [reply]

The best xmas present my missus ever gave me! & caused a huge party at my gaff on boxing day with everybody from 32 - 48 remininscing and digging out old cd's! FANTASTIC. Like so many other readers, I got the book as a present too - for my ninth anniversary from my wife - and it's fantastic. At my age, I must admit I've been more often to the Barrowlands but I was able to attend the great venue during the latter stages in the 80's. Some updates for the books "Who Played When Section" - I have a couple of ticket stubs for gigs which don't appear as follows;
Sat 10th October 1981 - Madness (supported by The Belle Stars)
Fri 22nd January 1982 - UB40
Wed 15th September 1982 - UB40
The book left me wondering what happened to the arm of the seat I got from the stalls after The Stranglers last concert there in February 1985.

I feel a bit of a cheat when I read some of the comments by diehard fans but the only time I actually paid to see a band at the Apollo was when my girfriend(now my wife) bought tickets to see T.Rex But I have seen Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones and(speaks in a low voice)The Osmonds to name a few, how this came about I will explain.  I worked for a company called Stage Furnishings who supplied theatrical lighting and fittings for most of the theatres in and around Glasgow and the Apollo was just another job but what a job it turned out to be, on the night it was due to open everyone was working up to the last minute litteraly, Johnny Cash was the act scheduled to open and we were told by the management that because we stayed to finish the work we could watch the show from the GODS, high up in the theatre, well if the audience had turned round they would have seen joiners, electricians,plumbers and all sorts of tradesmen looking down at the show with them, fond memories.  Off to bed now but tell you soon about the gigs I managed to see. [reply]

Just finished reading the book today and I have to admit I had a tear in my eye! It brought back so many memories, especially the Thin Lizzy concert with Phil in his Scotland shirt. All the Quo concerts and many more. Some of the memories had me laughing out loud, yes, how the years all drift away then its back to reality! [reply]

Hey guys- I've got a really specific question. Does anyone know if there is a DVD or video anywhere of Bob Marley performing in July 1980? [reply]

hi my name is liam and i was maintenance  joiner from 82 till 85 when it closed its doors many many memories if your interested on hearing some of them let me know cheers. [reply]

Can anyone confirm where the dodgy info came from concerning the site of the apollo,because it was'nt where the walkabout bar is,for that to be true the Pavillion theatre would need to be across the road from the Apollo and I certainly don't remember that.For the record the Apollo site was nextdoor to where the Renfield Bar is now,save for the wee lane where I got my Angus autograph.
