| The Musical
The big news is that there is going to be a CONVENTION and MUSICAL about the Apollo. Plans for “I was there” are in there early stages but, with your support, it should be on a stage in Glasgow next year.
The musical will be produced by Tommy McGrory and the Loud ‘n’ Proud and the School of Rock in conjunction with Apollomemories!
We have been talking to Tommy for a couple of months now and just a couple of weeks ago the news that funding had been secured from the UK National Lottery means that this amazing idea is going to happen.
The idea for the musical came from the stories you have told us and as such you the are the first people in the world to know that this amazing project is underway.
At the moment we have a number of ideas for the event which include:
A ROCK MUSICAL telling the story of the famous Glasgow Apollo with a cast of around 100 young people. It could run for up to a week in a Glasgow venue. The cast will include 5 or 6 bands which will include a huge Rock orchestra.
A CULTURAL/HERITAGE PROJECT for the young people involved with the show researching a piece of Glasgow History and producing a show, book or video
AN EXHIBITION of memorabilia, photographs and videos held in conjunction with the Museums Dept this would be held to kick-start the whole thing off, say a week before the live show.
AN “APOLLO FEST” Basically original bands who played at the Apollo (or Tribute bands reliving the era) Maybe for a period of a week or two venues in and around Glasgow could take part in the festival by getting bands who played at the Apollo to play at their club.
END OF FESTIVAL PARTY which is bevying with famous people and wearing your favourite bands t shirt – although it will almost definitely be far too tight for you.
We know our plans are ambitious and that to bring it off we will need a lot of support. However, given our great experiences of making “Apollomemories” the book and “The Final Countdown” the DVD we are certain that we can make this happen.
As always we are able to offer visitors to our website the opportunity to get involved.
Is there a particular song, from ABBA to ZZ Top, and/or story that you would like us to feature in the musical?
If yes please let us know by dropping us an email to apollomemories@yahoo.co.uk or by writing to Apollomemories, PO Box 354, Northwich, United Kingdom, CW9 6WT.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved in a fantastic project about the history of music is Scotland, please get in touch.
If you are in a band or merchandiser and would like to get involved, please get in touch and let’s see how we can work together to make this event the success it deserves to be.
Andy is working away to provide an area on the website about “I WAS THERE” where you can contribute song ideas and stories. We are also planning a blog that will let you follow our progress.
