| And then he walked along the edge of the Circle
This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!
New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

| I’ve just realized through surfing your website that I attended a Frank Zappa concert
at the Apollo on my 19th birthday (14.02.79). I went along with a friend (who had an
extra ticket) out of curiosity. It certainly was a curious event. The audience seemed
‘ancient’ – average age late twenties – and there was an abundance of Afghan coats
(remember them?), long hair, funny smells and all things generally ‘hippy’. As a
Sounds-reading teenage student at the time this seemed like a time warp. All I
remember of the actual concert is that Zappa was accompanied by a 10-piece orchestra
and that he performed a song with the quaint title “Why does it hurt when I pee?”.
Another strange thing was that in among all the twentysomethings sat two white-haired
men who would be in their sixties or seventies. Very odd.

| This was one of the most memorable gigs I ever intended as it changed my entire
appreciation of rock music forever
Definitely the tightest most accomplished
musicians I'd ever seen up to that time, and being relatively new to Zappa and his
output I was astonished at the band's versatility and diversity of musical styles ...
and also, they were ****** funny with it ... and that was relatively rare in those
po-faced, progrock days
I went in there with half a dozen spliffs in my
pocket, and came out with five unsmoked ... very unusual for me in those days ... I'd
simply forgot to do them as I was so enthralled and gobsmacked with the
gig
From then on, and until this very day, Frank was my main
man!!
Yowza!!
