And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on Man O` War [reply]

It's Manowar, Andy - one word. Actually there's another word - hilarious! They played back in 82 to the emptiest I'd ever seen the Apollo, probably only filled the first 6 or 7 rows of the stalls, but they came on like 4 Conan the Barbarians! All muscles and attitude! Musically pretty good, but the image was the erm.. selling point. Signed their record contract in blood supposedly. Real men play Real metal.... yep, hilarious, and still doing the same thing! OMG I was at the Manowar gig.  We were kept in the foyer for ages before being let in.  Can't remember who the support went, but yup Manowar were awesome.  The Conan image was spot on.  They've always been treated as a bit of a joke, but they're still playing some of the best metal out there.
Some people can't see past the image, but if you can your ears will love you.

The gig was on the 27/10/84 and the support band were Tobruk , I remember they were quite good . Manowar came on stage about 45 mins late and were the loudest band I have ever seen but unfortunately they were also the worst . Only gig I left early . [reply]

I'll admit to buying all of their albums and indeed travelled through to Edina the year before..and they were even louder then!

Looking back, they took themselves way too seriously, but are still one of the best live acts I've seen.

Must be the lowest Apollo attendance ever mind you!
